Curd Rice with Thadka


Cooked Rice 2 cups
Plain Yogurt 2 cups
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon oil
Mustard Seeds 1/4th teaspoon
Black gram 1 teaspoon
Chilies 1 or to taste
Curry leaves 1 sprig
Peanuts 1/4th cup
Asafetida pinch


  • In a big mixing bowl, mix cooked rice, yogurt and salt.
  • For Tadka or tampering heat oil in a separate pan, after it is hot, add mustard seeds and asafetida, let it crackle. Then add black gram, chopped chilies, curry leaves and peanuts. Sauté till the peanuts turn golden brown and add them into the rice and yogurt mixture.
  • I added some grated carrots, you can add some raisins and pomegranate seeds for that extra flavor kick :P
